John 1:1–18
Jesus is the Word

Guest speaker Amanda Hickell delivers a bittersweet final message to the congregation before her family's relocation, focusing deeply on the cosmic identity and earthly purpose of Jesus Christ. By breaking the text into two sections, she explores who the Word is (John 1:1–5) and why the Word came (John 1:6–18). Amanda highlights how Jesus existed eternally as part of the Trinity and acted as the dynamic agent of all creation. She shifts to the mechanics of the gospel, detailing how the eternal Creator chose to humble Himself by putting on human flesh—"tabernacling" or pitching His tent on the ground with us—and taking on the ultimate punishment for humanity's sin. Using an analogy of a messy preschool art project, she concludes that because humans do not initiate their own lives, secure their final endings, or perfectly manage the middle, we must abandon self-reliance and treat Jesus as our daily, indispensable source of life.
